Shershaah

This biographical war film tells the story of Vikram Batra, an officer of the Indian army who lost his life fighting the Pakistan army in the 1999 Kargil war. Most associated with him is his reference to the pop-culture victory signal, “ye dil maange more,” (this heart asks for more) from the iconic Pepsi commercial. Batra was awarded the Param Vir Chakra, the highest military honour for wartime valour.

Directed by Vishnu Vardhan, revered in Tamil cinema circles and features romance, drama, action, hair-raising background score, and some of the most iconic dialogues in cinema. Starring Siddharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani, this movie won a whopping six awards – the most at the ceremony – including Best Picture and Best Director.

Sardar Udham

Directed by Shoojit Sircar, who also helmed Piku, this film is a biographical historical drama that looks into the life of Indian revolutionary Udham Singh who assassinated Michael O’Dwyer in London to avenge the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre, which led to the death of thousands of innocent people.

Starring Vicky Kaushal, who won the award for the Best Actor for his lead role in the film, Sardar Udham explores themes of patriotism and revenge, with an emotional music score composed by Shantanu Moitra, the name behind Parineeta. That, along with engaging non-linear editing, heart-wrenching writing, and brilliant acting performances make this one unmissable.

Mumbai: 2022’s most awaited award show IIFA Awards is going to be telecast on television today and fans cannot wait to witness the B-Town in its entirety. This year, Salman Khan, Ritesh Deshmukh, and Maniesh Paul graced the stage as hosts, and based on the promos, they seem to have done a splendid job of keeping the audience entertained.

In a new promo dropped by Colors TV on their Instagram, host Salman Khan can be seen pulling Bollywood actress Sara Ali Khan’s leg after she called him ‘uncle’.

In the video, Sara says, ‘ Main ek brand launch karne jaa rahi hoon Salman uncle ke saath (I am going to launch a brand with Salman uncle)’. Salman Khan replies, “Aapki picture gayi (now your film is gone).” A sad Sara Ali Khan then says, “Meri picture kyun gayi (why so?) Salman Khan says, “Aapne sabke samne mujhe uncle bulaya (you called me uncle in front of everyone).” Sara replies, “You told me to call you uncle.”

It was followed by Aanand L Rai’s Atrangi Re, starring Dhanush, Sara Ali Khan and Akshay Kumar, with two wins — best choreography for Chaka Chak (Vijay Ganguly) and background score for AR Rahman.

Other winners included Sidharth Malhotra-led Vikram Batra biopic Shershaah that bagged the best screenplay award for Sandeep Shrivastava.

Taapsee Pannu-starrer drama Thappad took the trophy for best dialogues for Anubhav Sinha and Mrunmayee Lagoo, whereas Ajay Devgn’s hit period action drama Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior was adjudged the winner of best sound design for Lochan Kanvinde.

Kabir Khan’s 83, a drama on the Indian cricket team’s 1983 World Cup win, won the best sound mixing award for Ajay Kumar PB and Manik Batra.

IIFA Rocks, which also hosts a musical evening, was hosted by director Farah Khan and actor-singer Aparshakti Khurrana, who had the audience constantly in splits with their gags and punchlines. Musicians Tanishk Bagchi, Neha Kakkar, Honey Singh, Guru Randhawa, Dhvani Bhanushali, Zahrah S Khan, Asees Kaur and Ash King enthralled the crowd at The Etihad Arena, which has a capacity of 18,000.

The evening saw several Bollywood stars in attendance like Salman Khan, Shahid Kapoor, Tiger Shroff and Ananya Panday among others.

Being held for the first time since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, the gala ceremony required mandatory RTPCR report and face masks at the entrance of the venue.

Designer duo Falguni & Shane Peacock presented their creations at the NEXA fashion show with actors Jacqueline Fernandez and Ananya as their showstoppers.

The main awards evening will be held on Saturday with Salman, Riteish Deshmukh and Maniesh Paul as hosts.

The IIFA Awards are being held in collaboration with the Department of Culture and Tourism Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), and Miral.

The evening saw several Bollywood stars in attendance like Salman Khan, Shahid Kapoor, Tiger Shroff and Ananya Panday among others.

Being held for the first time since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, the gala ceremony required mandatory RTPCR report and face masks at the entrance of the venue.

Designer duo Falguni & Shane Peacock presented their creations at the NEXA fashion show with actors Jacqueline Fernandez and Ananya as their showstoppers.

The main awards evening will be held on Saturday with Salman, Riteish Deshmukh and Maniesh Paul as hosts.

The IIFA Awards are being held in collaboration with the Department of Culture and Tourism Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), and Miral.
